FiveM and GTA 6: what is confirmed, and what RP server owners should do now

GTA VI comes out on November 19, 2026, and the same question keeps popping up on every roleplay Discord: will FiveM move to GTA 6, and should you get ready for it? The honest answer fits in one sentence: as of today, nothing has been announced for roleplay on GTA VI, and everything points to RP staying on GTA V and FiveM for the near future.

This guide separates what Rockstar or Cfx.re have actually confirmed from what is only rumor, puts a date on every fact, then sets out what a server owner should be doing right now. Everything here is current as of October 17, 2026: on a topic that moves this fast, always check the official source.

01What's confirmed, and what isn't

As of October 17, 2026, only one thing has a firm date: Rockstar Games announced on its official site that Grand Theft Auto VI launches on November 19, 2026, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Everything else, and roleplay in particular, is either an announcement that hasn't happened yet or a rumor. The table below sorts it out, line by line.

02FiveM in 2026: a platform in great shape

Far from running out of steam ahead of GTA VI, FiveM is still a very busy platform in 2026. Since it arrived on Steam in early 2026, public trackers show an average of around 120,000 concurrent players there between February and September, with peaks above 200,000 in the spring; those figures only count launches through Steam. In mid-October 2026, the public server list showed around 7,100 servers online. Those are not the numbers of a platform waiting to be replaced.

The rules are clearer too. Rockstar Games acquired Cfx.re, the team behind FiveM and RedM, in August 2023. Since January 12, 2026, a platform license sets out what creators and servers may do and sell; it was revised on September 10, 2026 and can be read at fivem.net/terms. Paid resources are sold through Tebex, the route Cfx.re provides for it.

  • FiveM is no longer a tolerated mod: it is Rockstar's own platform for modded multiplayer on GTA V, and the only one left standing.
  • A GTA V roleplay server today runs on FiveM and nowhere else: competing platforms, alt:V and then RAGE:MP, shut down in 2026.
  • The rules are written down, and they change: stores, in-game sales, paid resources. Reread the license in force before you open or change a store.
  • Every server still needs a Cfx.re license key, whoever hosts it. The Cfx key documentation explains how to create one.

03Why roleplay stays on GTA V for now

A new GTA does not move an RP community overnight. Roleplay on FiveM rests on three things GTA VI won't offer at launch: a PC, private servers you can modify, and years of scripts written for the game. Until all three are in place, roleplay has nowhere to go.

  1. No PC version announced. RP servers run on PC; on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, private modded servers simply are not possible.
  2. No RP platform announced. Nothing says when, in what form, or even whether roleplay servers will exist on GTA VI.
  3. A whole ecosystem to rebuild. Frameworks, inventories, phones, jobs, police: everything that makes a city was written for GTA V, and none of it carries over to another game as is.
  4. Cities with a history. Characters, businesses, gangs, court records: a community won't throw away years of roleplay for a brand new, empty map.
  5. A platform still investing in GTA V. FiveM is currently bringing its client to GTA V Enhanced, a clear sign it plans to stay on this game for a while.

04FiveM for GTA V Enhanced: worth watching, not yet worth adopting

The FiveM project that really matters in 2026 isn't GTA VI, it's GTA V Enhanced, the upgraded PC edition of the game. FiveM has been available on it in early access since July 21, 2026, as a separate client: the Legacy version keeps running alongside it, and existing servers have nothing to change for now. Cfx.re itself warns that early access comes with bugs and missing features.

05What server owners should do right now

  1. Only announce what's confirmed. Promising your community a "move to GTA 6" ties you to a timeline nobody knows, and the disappointment will land on you.
  2. Plan for the week of November 19. Some of your players will go and try GTA VI: save your big events for when they come back rather than for launch week, and keep staff around to welcome the returning players.
  3. Strengthen what follows you whatever the game: your Discord, your rules, your staff, and the lore and factions of your city.
  4. Reread the Cfx.re license. It came into force in January 2026 and was revised in September, and it governs your store and your in-game sales.
  5. Keep your GTA V server up to date. FiveM versions keep coming: a well-maintained server beats one frozen in place while it waits for another game.
  6. Follow Enhanced on a test server, without moving your city over until Asset Escrow is implemented there. As for txAdmin, several hosts still report it as unavailable; worth testing.

If you're starting from scratch, the guide on how to start a FiveM roleplay server covers the basics, from the idea of your city to your staff; they hold just as well today as after GTA VI comes out. And if you're unsure about the technical foundation, the ESX vs QBCore vs QBox comparison helps you pick a framework that will last.

06If GTA VI ever gets roleplay: what comes with you

If roleplay on GTA VI does happen, on PC and with private servers, the question will be what carries over. A good share of your work has nothing to do with the game itself, and that is what will make the difference when the day comes.

07Where Nova fits in

Nova Studio offers a managed FiveM RP server on a subscription: a FiveM server base built on QBox, with 67 modules, hosted on our machines and updated by us for every server at once. Everything to do with the game is set in game, with /admin, without touching a file. Nova is following Enhanced as it evolves and will switch over once the move is safe for its servers.

  • You don't track FiveM versions on your own: Nova keeps the foundation up to date, database migrations included, and a new version applies at the next restart.
  • Your time goes to what will follow you: the community, the rules, the staff, the events. Jobs, economy and permissions are set from the in-game admin panel.
  • No one-off pack slowly going stale on your disk: if the platform changes one day, you're not stuck with a frozen investment.

NOVA costs €99 a month for 64 players, NOVA+ €149 a month for 128 players and NOVA INFINITY €229 a month for 256 players, with hosting, updates and support included. The pricing page shows the current offers and the ones you can buy today. Your Cfx.re key stays yours: Nova neither sells it nor bills for it.

Frequently asked questions

Will there be a FiveM for GTA 6?

Nothing has been announced. As of October 17, 2026, neither Rockstar nor Cfx.re has announced a roleplay platform for GTA VI, and the game launches on consoles first, with no dated PC version. Anything else you read is rumor.

Is GTA 6 coming to PC?

Not at launch. GTA VI comes out on November 19, 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, and no PC version has been announced so far. Roleplay servers run on PC.

Will FiveM servers empty out when GTA 6 launches?

Some players will likely spend the first few weeks in GTA VI. But private-server roleplay does not exist on consoles: communities that want roleplay stay on FiveM, still very busy in 2026 according to public trackers, whose figures only count launches through Steam.

What is Project ROME?

A name passed around by dataminers and by a press article based on industry sources, described as a future Rockstar creation tool. Rockstar has never confirmed it, for GTA VI or any other game: treat it as a rumor.

Should I move my server to GTA V Enhanced?

Not a public city, not yet. FiveM has been in early access on it since July 2026: Asset Escrow is not implemented there yet, and txAdmin, several hosts still report it as unavailable; worth testing. Try it on a separate server and wait for early access to end.

Is it still worth opening a FiveM RP server?

Yes, if you have a plan for your city. FiveM is Rockstar's platform for modded multiplayer on GTA V, its player numbers remain high according to public trackers of launches through Steam, and the community you build today is the one that will follow you tomorrow. The guide on how to start a FiveM roleplay server walks through the steps.
