FiveM on GTA V Enhanced: should you leave Legacy now?

Since July 21, 2026, FiveM also runs on GTA V Enhanced, the modernized PC version of the game. It is early access: a separate client and server, rewritten voice, reworked sync, and gaps that Cfx.re openly acknowledges. For an RP server already living on Legacy, the question is not whether Enhanced is coming, but when it becomes sensible to move a community over.

This guide takes stock as of mid-October 2026: what FiveM Enhanced is, what changes compared with Legacy, what happens to your resources, the current limits, and a simple grid to help you decide. The technical facts come from Cfx.re's official documentation; it changes with every hotfix, so check it again before you act.

01GTA V Enhanced and FiveM Enhanced, explained

GTA V Enhanced is the PC upgrade of GTA V released on March 4, 2025: the PS5 and Xbox Series version, with ray tracing, DLSS and FSR, and faster loading. It is free for anyone who already owns the game on PC, and the old version stays available in the launcher as GTA V Legacy. They are two separate games: you can't play online from one to the other.

FiveM, the Cfx.re multiplayer platform that Rockstar Games acquired in August 2023, had only ever run on Legacy. On July 21, 2026, Cfx.re opened FiveM for GTAV Enhanced in early access, with a client downloaded separately from fivem.net and a new server, Cfx Server, shipped apart from the usual FXServer artifacts. The official announcement itself warns that this version contains bugs and missing features.

The timing matters. FiveM arrived on Steam in early 2026 and, according to public trackers, averaged 120,000 to 130,000 concurrent players a day there between February and September 2026, figures that only count launches through Steam. Bringing that player base to the current version of the game is the natural next step; flipping everyone over at once is not, and Cfx.re isn't asking for it.

02Legacy vs Enhanced: what actually changes

It isn't just about graphics. Cfx.re reworked network sync, voice and the C# scripting runtime, and some server.cfg settings no longer mean anything. The official What's Changed in FiveM for GTAV Enhanced page has the full list; the table below keeps what matters for an RP server.

03What an RP server gains

Early access isn't only about what's missing. Several changes directly help a roleplay server, especially those around security and voice.

  • Client-server sync. Peer-to-peer sync is gone: the server is the authority, which Cfx.re says lowers latency, and which takes away some of the leverage a cheater had over other players.
  • Voice owned by the server. The new voice API is server-side only: the server decides who joins a channel, who is muted and who is deafened. A police radio can no longer be overheard by tampering with a client. Cfx.re also promises better quality on unstable connections, with noise and echo cancellation.
  • Stricter entity lockdown. A new lockdown mode, full, disables the creation of "dummy objects", according to the documentation, and sv_entityLockdown replaces the old sv_protectServerEntities, which is not implemented on Enhanced.
  • GTA V Enhanced visuals for players with the hardware: ray tracing, DLSS or FSR, and shorter loading times, a selling point from the very first connection.

04Will your resources run on Enhanced

Cfx.re built Enhanced to stay compatible with most existing Lua, JavaScript and C# scripts. Most, not all: what breaks comes from changed behavior rather than syntax, and you find out in game, rarely in the console.

  • Lua and JavaScript: most resources load untouched. But state bags now only fire callbacks if the entity exists, and a value is only replicated if it is set explicitly: a script that relied on the old behavior goes quiet without an error.
  • Player IDs: on Enhanced, the ID of a player who leaves can be handed to the next one who joins. A script that keeps data filed under that ID after a disconnect may hand it to someone else.
  • C#: Mono gives way to .NET 10. C# resources often need to be rebuilt, sometimes fixed, by their author.
  • Voice: the Mumble natives are deprecated. They still work through a compatibility layer (sv_mumble), but the documentation warns that it lets any client join any channel and listen to any conversation. The clean route is the new server-side API.
  • KVP data: key-value database files must be migrated, and the migration script Cfx.re announced is not available yet.
  • server.cfg: a single endpoint_add_tcp and a single endpoint_add_udp, sv_entityLockdown instead of sv_protectServerEntities, and several OneSync and voice settings removed.

05The limits of early access

Early access is judged by what's missing. As of mid-October 2026, this is what weighs most for a roleplay server.

  • Asset Escrow is not implemented. Paid scripts protected by escrow, sold through Tebex, don't load on an Enhanced server. For a city built on protected purchases, that settles it.
  • txAdmin is not a given. Cfx.re said it would stay built into the new Cfx Server, but several hosts still report it as unavailable; worth testing on your own install before you trust your administration to it.
  • A platform that moves every week. Hotfixes keep coming, the fourth one three days after launch, and the community still reports natives that behave differently from Legacy.
  • Players' graphics mods are blocked, and pure mode can no longer be turned off. Your community's graphics packs won't come along.
  • Nothing guarantees that a framework or community resource has been tested on Enhanced by its author. ESX, QBCore or QBox, check the repository of every piece of your server, then test.

06Should you switch to Enhanced now

For an open city with an active community, the October 2026 answer is no, not in production yet. It still depends on where you stand: the table below gives a recommendation for each profile.

Switching to Enhanced, depending on your situation
RecommendationWhy
Open city, active communitystay on Legacy, test alongsidea second client, scripts to recheck, players left out by their hardware
City built on protected scriptswaitescrow is not implemented
Project opening in a few monthsbuild on Legacy, validate on Enhancedthe platform will have changed by launch
Test or experimental serverswitch, eyes openthat's what early access is for
Resource authortest right nowyour users will ask before you do

Staying on Legacy isn't falling behind. Rockstar keeps GTA V Legacy in its launcher, Cfx.re hasn't announced any end date for FiveM Legacy, and Legacy servers keep running. The right time will come once escrow ships, your key resources have been validated by their authors, and enough of your community has installed the Enhanced client. Ask them: a poll on your Discord beats a guess.

07Testing Enhanced without risking your city

  1. Keep your Legacy server in production, untouched. Testing happens on a second install with a copy of the database, never on the live city.
  2. Download Cfx Server from the official download page and, on Windows, install the Microsoft Visual C++ 2017 redistributable it requires. You still need a Cfx key, as for any server: the Cfx key guide says where to create it.
  3. Go through your server.cfg and clean it up: a single TCP and a single UDP endpoint, sv_entityLockdown in place of sv_protectServerEntities, removed settings taken out. The archive and the executable are now named cfx-server.
  4. Sort your resources: those protected by escrow (set aside for now), those written in C# (to be rebuilt), and those touching voice, state bags or player IDs (to test first).
  5. Run your vehicles, maps and clothing through Alchemist and put the output in stream_enhanced, keeping stream for Legacy.
  6. Have a small group play a few evenings on the Enhanced client and write down what breaks. Platform bugs are reported in the Discussions tab of the GitHub repository Cfx.re points to.
  7. Decide on the evidence: what is still broken, what is waiting on escrow, and how many of your players can follow.

08What about a Nova server

Nova is following Enhanced as it evolves and will switch over once the move is safe for its servers. While early access changes every week, a live city has more to lose than to gain.

What a hosted base changes is who carries the work. The Nova framework, its 67 modules and their migrations are maintained by Nova and shipped to every server at once: if an Enhanced version were released, it would arrive like any other update, at the next restart, with no file for you to rework. Nova's own code doesn't rely on Asset Escrow. Your own resources, uploaded to resources/[client], are still yours or their author's to validate, as on any server.

Meanwhile, your city is set up in game from the admin panel, on a complete QBox base. The subscription includes hosting and updates, from €99 to €229 a month depending on the plan; the pricing page shows the current offers and the ones you can buy today.

Frequently asked questions

What is FiveM Enhanced?

It is the version of FiveM that runs on GTA V Enhanced, the PC upgrade of the game released in March 2025. It has been in early access since July 21, 2026, with its own client, its own server (Cfx Server), rewritten voice and client-server sync.

Can a FiveM Legacy player join an Enhanced server?

No. The two versions are separate: a server is either Legacy or Enhanced, and players install the matching client. For Enhanced they also need GTA V Enhanced, which is free for anyone who already owns GTA V on PC.

Do my bought scripts work on Enhanced?

Not if they are protected by Asset Escrow: Cfx.re hasn't implemented it on Enhanced yet, and those scripts don't load. Open Lua or JavaScript scripts usually work after testing; C# ones often need rebuilding for .NET.

Is FiveM Legacy going away?

No end date has been announced. Rockstar keeps GTA V Legacy in its launcher, and Cfx.re runs both FiveMs side by side during early access. Follow the Cfx.re forum announcements rather than rumors.

Should I wait for GTA VI to start an RP server?

No. GTA VI comes out on November 19, 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series, with no PC version announced, and no official roleplay platform has been announced for it. An RP server starts on FiveM today: the guide to starting a GTA RP server walks through the steps.

Will Nova servers move to Enhanced?

Nova is following Enhanced as it evolves and will switch over once the move is safe for its servers, with no date announced. Because Nova maintains and ships the framework for every server, the move wouldn't require you to rework any file; your own scripts would still need validating.
